Satellite Seminary Student Admissions to the DVD Program

Graduate Admission

Graduate program applicants normally must have a baccalaureate degree (or its equivalent) from an institution accredited by a recognized regional or national accreditation body. Graduate applicants should have a minimum undergraduate grade point average of 2.7 on a 4.0 scale and are expected to possess a basic understanding of the Bible and the essentials of the Christian faith so as to be able to engage in meaningful graduate study. Admission decisions are based upon the applicant’s complete application file.

Admission depends on factors beyond the applicant’s previous academic history. Acceptance to study for ministries of the church involves qualities of the whole person. Therefore, the seminary seeks students who are committed to Christ and who desire to live lives consistent with the teachings of Scripture. It is expected that such students will be emotionally suited for Christian service, intellectually capable of rigorous academic discipline, sensitive to the needs of the total community, able to demonstrate personal integrity, and willing to grow spiritually.

The seminary reserves the right to draw conclusions regarding the Christian profession of all applicants. The seminary also reserves the right to deny admission to any individual with a theological position or personal life-style not in accordance with biblical and ethical standards established and determined by the Word of God. The final authority for the definition of biblical and ethical mailers lies with the Governing Board of the seminary. All applicants must read, respect, and uphold the basic doctrinal statement and code of conduct of the seminary.

Nondiscrimination Policy

It does not discriminate with regards to any of the above mentioned categories in the administration of its educational and admissions policies, scholarships, financial assistance, and academic programs.

Acceptance of Admission
When the complete application file is received, the application is reviewed by the Admissions Committee and a decision is communicated to the applicant within four weeks. Once applicants have been admitted they need to confirm enrollment through the Office of the Registrar to be officially matriculated.

Categories of Admission
The following categories of admission exist:
1) Regular; 2) Provisional; 3) Unclassified; 4) Mature

1. Regular Student Admission:
Applicants meet normal admission standards.

2. Provisional Student Admission:
The seminary may admit under “Provisional Admission” status students who lack 15 quarter hours or less toward the completion of the baccalaureate degree. The student is given one year to complete the remaining hours in order to be allowed to officially enroll for the next academic year. Also, students whose transcript records need further authentication or translation may be admitted within this category.

3. Unclassified Student Admission:
Students who take up to 8 hours per quarter, but are not recognized as working toward the completion of any program, must fill out an application form only. Unclassified admission is a temporary status only. Following the completion of 24 quarter hours the student must complete the process for admission to the seminary.

4. Mature Student Admission:
Although the standard prerequisite for graduate study at the seminary is an accredited baccalaureate degree, the seminary has a mature student provision for those who have not obtained a bachelor’s degree, yet have the desire and ability to study at the graduate level. Mature students must be at least 30 years of age and pursuing the requirements of a Christian ministry.

The policy for mature students states that only a limited portion of the student body (10%) may be admitted in this category. The seminary does not wish to discourage such applications, but standards limit the number of mature students that are able to be admitted each year. Applications will be assessed according to the availability of space and the relative merits of each application.

Mature students not possessing undergraduate general education courses in their academic background will be required to complete a series of general education and introductory Bible courses before they are admitted officially to any graduate program. The number of required courses will be determined by the Admissions Committee.

NOTE: Students accepted under mature status are classified as probational students. There will be an open review of the student’s progress at the end of the first year of study for the purpose of granting permission for continuation.

Students possessing a nonaccredited baccalaureate degree, or who have an undergraduate SPA not meeting minimum standards will be included in the same category, although they do not fall under the same age restrictions.
